Animal Sacrifice traditions

Recently I heard for the first time that there is a tradition in Nepal where they cull hundreds of thousands of animals in the name of "sacrifice". WHAT THE F***?!!! I am not sure where these traditions take root from. These traditions surely were part of ancient vedic Brahministic rituals in the past but that has changed over the millenia. The interpretations of these rituals is more symbolic than literal. I am horrified at what happened there in in Nepal. I condemn it and am ashamed of such a tradition being followed with no thought given to it. I have no further words. At the same time, I dont understand what the the meat eating population of the world is horrified about? Please dont have double standards about this. More than 10 times this number of animals are culled EVERY DAY of the year to fulfill your desire for a "tasty" meal. I as a researcher in the schools of thoughts of Santana Dharma have a right to be horrified because off the 6 main school

My Biggest Regret in Life

I started writing this letter to my father, but thought this blog is a better place, in the hope that some young kid somewhere on earth will heed to my regret and research further to avoid the same for her/his life. These are thoughts at my core today at the age of 31. I wish I could turn back time. When i see westerners who have travelled to India live there for decades and learnt yoga, meditation, Pranayama and many other ancient sciences from our guru's living in India and then these ppl come back and teach it to the world here in the west, I am so sad and depressed and lost that living in India I never knew much about these possibilities, the greatness, the finality and the importance to life it self that can be realized by mastering the above. And now i am having to start here all alone sitting in a room, reading a book, watching some video introduced to me by a westerner as part of some workout routine as the most important part of the routine, and here i am, too o

'OM' and the Proof of Heaven

Image
Some time back I had blogged about this neurosurgeon that wrote about his near death experience. Now remember he is a Christian with a frame of context of Christianity through out his life. What this picture below shows is mind blowing. When you learn enough of esoteric "hinduism" in the advaita school of thought (and i am sure many others), the "Pranavam" or the syllable "OM" is described as GOD. The bottom line of the description of God in human vernacular stops at OM in the Vedas. Now read on. Here are a few other excerpts: These are actual excerpts of the book "Proof of Heaven" written by Eben Alexander. And as you read these excerpts, without quoting the Vedas, I can tell you, this is the literal translation of many quotes from the Vedas themselves, from the Purusha Sukta especially that attempts to describe the qualities of "God". The claim of the Vedic apologists is also that the Vedas were so

Intermittent Fasting -- Ekadasi Vrata (especially mukkoti Ekadasi)

Here are a few studies I came across regarding intermittent fasting: http://fitness.mercola.com/sites/fitness/archive/2013/06/28/intermittent-fasting-health-benefits.aspx Fasting for two days could regenerate the immune system, according to research http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/fasting-for-two-days-could-regenerate-the-immune-system-according-to-research-9506168.html John Hopkins magazine article on Intermittent fasting. Considering some amazing claims by modern science that based on still ongoing research let us read through my notes of what ekadasi (11th day from full moon or no moon day) vrata upvasam entails from the speech of my guru. I stress on ongoing research, because eventually the other items listed below will be found as well. I am confident. How long from now? Who knows? It took western science 500 yrs to get here. This vrata per the sastra (orthodox rules) are expected to be followed by everyone without miss by EVERYONE who has any inclination

Are likes and dislikes formed in the brain?

For time immemorial the rishi's of India have spoken about how "tendencies/likes/dislikes" or "vasanas" are not recorded in the brain but in the "manassu", a word for which I doubt there is an exact english translation. And these tendencies go with the "sukshma sharira" or the subtle body from birth to birth to birth. Here is a small recent finding that perhaps is scratching the surface of that very fact. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1237998/Heart-transplant-patient-gets-craving-food-eaten-organ-donor.html And of course there is no clear understanding in modern science yet about where memories are exactly stored... surely we'll get there someday. But may be the heart is one of the places you should look? I dont know, but the point is, we still are discovering so much in modern science, a long way to go before we write off the wisdom / knowledge of the ancient rishis of India.

Namasthe vs Hand shake

Image
Take a clue you western educated foolish Indians from the latest study. http://news.discovery.com/human/videos/worried-about-germs-adopt-the-fist-bump-greeting-video-140729.htm Hand shaking is GROSSS.... literally. And if you were to believe evolutionary biologists as to how this ritual evolved from apes to humans, you'd be dumb founded. Seriously, read the above excerpt from "the shadows of the forgotten ancestors" by Dr. Carl Sagan. Do you really want to continue that tradition, albiet in a modified form because we wear pants? Or do you think the Namasthe, taught to us by the ancient Indian Rishi's while being extremely hygienic also has a deeper philosophical and spiritual meaning attached to it. A namasthe to me has a reverence attached to it that no nasty handshake in the world can substitute. Please do not be offended if I don't shake your hand the next time. Our GREAT RISHIS, how many other proofs do you need to have faith in their wisdo

A Contemporary Philosophical Genius ---Swami Dayananda Saraswati

I have no words to describe the genius of this man and the philosophy of Vedanta. This statement is not coming out of vain pride, but comes out of deep thought. Using your brain. Not out of "faith", but out of intelligent thought and analysis. You have to listen to find out further. Swami Dayananda Saraswati 1976 Speech.

Alexander and a Yogi

Image
Here is an interesting story: http://andreaskluth.org/2010/03/12/alexander-meets-a-yogi-whos-the-hero/ Alexander the Great  was busy conquering the known world once, when he saw, on the banks of the Indus river in today’s Pakistan, a naked guy sitting in the  Lotus position  and contemplating the dirt. “Gymnosophists” ( gumnos  = naked,  sophistes  = philosopher) the Greeks called these men. We would call them  yogis  — as in:  Patanjali , say. “What are you doing?”, asked Alexander. “Experiencing nothingness,” answered the yogi. “What are  you  doing?” “Conquering the world,” said Alexander. Then both men laughed, each thinking that the other must be a fool. “Why is he conquering the world?”, thought the yogi. “It’s pointless.” “Why is he sitting around doing nothing?”, thought Alexander. “What a waste of a life.” ____________________________________________________________________________ The question is, which one of the two appeals to you more. I think i

Without modern scientific findings and theories and Vedanta I would've have been agnostic.

Think.

Atheist God fathers and atheists... a thought

Richard Dawkins says he is truly speaking an agnostic.(that is a stance I am supportive of for individuals who are in capable of accepting anything without 100% evidence, fair enough, but feel sorry for them coz what if they've hedged their bets the wrong way....its not like they will live for ever) Sam Harris is writing a book called : spirituality without religion (technically known as Buddhism....essentially an agnostic school of thought.... He just wants to sell his books to his atheist audience hence the name of the book) And the rest who claim that something doesn't exist cannot even define what doesn't exist and have no guts or the ability to look for that thing or to accept that humanity has a looooooooooong way before coming to conclusions on many things, but keep insisting it doesn't exist..... Interesting... But foolish.

Double Slit Experiment: An Epiphany

I have been wondering a lot lately about this experiment. All you must be aware of what the findings are. Now I have also always been pondering over what the guru's who have had the advaitic experience describe their experience to be, more or less this is what every advaitic master has described his experience as far as the world they perceive goes: "Every boundary between me and the rest disappeared. I could see no difference between me and the other being, me and the other inanimate objects. All of it just seemed like one big whole." These advaitic masters since adi Sankara (and before) have also told us that the universe lies within is, i.e. the world we see is a concoction of our mind that is conditioned to see the world the way we see it, we believe it to be. And once this "believe" is dispelled, we wont see the world as separate beings or separate from us. Yesterday while working out I had an epiphany about how closely these experiences and the ex

Proof of God --- Something circumstantially undeniable

One of my earlier post discussed how Srinivasa Ramanujam says that on his death bed, God came in to his dreams and wrote the equations on a board with a blood stained hand, which he woke up and committed to paper. In fact he says he doesn't know what those equations mean, and only as recently as 2010 are mathematicians and scientists deciphering those equations which at this point seem to undoubtedly describe the motion/behavior of black holes (mind you when he wrote these equations scientists had no clue what black holes were, the term was not even coined). That was proof to me. And I am sure to most. You can research further on this claim to your hearts content. But in general to me a believable proof is when an third party that has no connection with a certain claim by another party, agrees to it. The story of Sri Ramadasu is one, where the muslim king, agreed that it was Sree Rama who came to clear the debt of Sri Ramadasu to get him released from hail after 12 years. (a

An Algorithm

Some time back, a very naive young kid, apparently a communist/marxist student leader, also an atheist, a friend of my brother, tried to trash talk me and mocked me if I had an algorithm to prove my belief in God, or an algorithm to prove God, I told him I did. Yes, I do have an algorithm. But for that, all of us need to first understand what extrapolation means in mathematics, what inferences mean in philosophy...Please pause here and read up what these mean before continuing further. So when I started on this path of understanding theology, I really never identified myself as a "Hindu". I never drew lines around my self. I practically still do not like to. Except now a days I am forced to do for a few reasons no acceptable to be published on a public blog. So here I asked a question one fine day: So there is the Bible, the Torah, the Gita/Vedas, etc etc. (add any number of books) in the world. All of them, claim, I am the truth, and the only truth ( except of cours
