When the untouchable gets touched

I've been thinking a lot about death lately. Not in a morbid or depressing way, but in a curious and philosophical way. What does it mean to die? What happens after we die? And most importantly, do we really need to live long lives?

I know that sounds like a strange question, especially in a world where everyone is obsessed with longevity and anti-aging. We have so many products, services, and technologies that promise to extend our lifespan, improve our health, and delay our decay. We have so many goals, dreams, and ambitions that we want to achieve before we kick the bucket. We have so many people, places, and experiences that we want to enjoy while we still can.

But why? Why do we want to live longer? What is the point of prolonging our existence? Is it because we are afraid of death? Is it because we are attached to our ego and identity? Is it because we are hopeful for a better future? Or is it because we are not satisfied with our present?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that life is not worth living. I'm not saying that we should give up on our passions and pursuits. I'm not saying that we should stop caring about ourselves and others. I'm just wondering if we are missing something by focusing so much on quantity over quality. I'm just wondering if we are living for the sake of living, rather than living for the sake of meaning.

Maybe we don't need to live long lives. Maybe we just need to live meaningful lives. Maybe we just need to live in the moment, appreciate what we have, and make the most of what we are given. Maybe we just need to live authentically, express ourselves fully, and connect with others deeply. Maybe we just need to live gratefully, joyfully, and lovingly.

Maybe that's what it means to truly live. And maybe that's what it means to truly die.
